Need Work Up: Severe left-sided pain around the rib cage could indicate a problem in any of the following areas: stomach and gas, cardiac, lung-related, musculoskeletal, intestinal, pancreas and less likely spleen. See PCP for EKG: Sounds like muscular spasm or costochondritis. But anytime there is ongoing chest pain, a cardiac (heart) must be done. Costochondritis is inflammation between ribs and sternum. It is usually treated with anti inflammatory meds. Strains are treated with rest, ice, and anti inflammatory meds.
