Gradual onset: Symptoms of diabetic peripheral neuropathy may include: tingling numbness (severe or long-term numbness can become permanent) burning (especially in the evening) pain.

Sensory, motor, Auto: There are multiple types of diabetic neuropathy, and yes they are gradual. Sensory neuropathy is divided between large fiber (loss of sensation, proprioception) and small fiber (burning, tingling). Motor neuropathy causes weakness & instability and may lead to deformities of the hands and feet. Autonomic neuropathy causes stomach emptying issues and erectile dysfunction.
