Need more info: It sounds as if a doctor has seen you for insomnia & is trying a plan. Be patient, these things take time to process through. I think it's good that a decision was made to stop using (or overusing possibly?) prescription sleep meds. Those are supposed to be used for temporary states of insomnia. Do you know more info about why the anxiety state and since when has that been a problem? Nightmares?

Insomnia: Sometimes it takes a while for the effects of medications with neurologic effects to wear off , so it may be longer then 2 months. Check for sleep apnea, and thyroid. Avoid caffeine. You are on melantonin. Speak to your doctor regarding valerian, lavender, chamomile tea, breathing techniques, meditation, yoga, cognitive behavioral therapy Good luck

Melatonin: Give melatonin a try in addition to the sleep hygiene measures. Give the melatonin several weeks to see if it works. Good luck!
