Yes they are contagi: Cold sores are caused by Type 1 Herpes Simplex Virus and are contagtios.Avoid kissing as long as there are active sores

Yes, however...: Cold sores are caused by Herpes Simplex Virus 1 (though occ, caused by Type 2). However, most adults have already been exposed to this virus, so the odds are pretty good you already have it. Ask your Dr. to test IgG antibodies to HSV-1 to check this. Many who have it never get cold sores. If you have not been exposed don't kiss your husband when he has outbreaks. If you've been exposed no worries.
