Concerning, see a dr: HNP means there is Herniated Nucleus Pulposus, or the inside part of the disc between the vertebrae is extruding (squished out). This can put pressure on nerves/nerve roots and cause pain. It's is more concerning if the pain radiates down one leg or the other or if there is associated incontinence or loss of bladder or bowel, function. In these cases, surgery may be required or epidural injections

Info Incomplete: HNP = herniated nucleus pulposis which is a protrusion of the jelly that acts as a cushion between the bones of the spine. The designation 'L' means lumbar (in the low back just above and at the hip level). An HNP causes problems by pinching the cord or compressing nerve roots, which require surgery. Occasionally the disc is painful because of the herniation itself. Discuss with your Doctor.
