What is the meaning of social isolation now with constant access to digital media?

It is the same: Social isolation is a symptom of anxiety disorders that adolescents develop due to phobias, panic disorder, separation anxiety etc. With advent of our computers, smart phones and tablets, these adolecents hide their problems entering a self created world in cyperspace where they feel safe. Parents many time miss their child problems feeling their child is just a computer geek.

Two views: There are a couple of views on this. One is that social media brings us closer together because we are now able to interact with people across large geographical distances. On the other hand, social media may inhibit in-person interactions, and cause a person to spend more time at the computer instead of talking directly with others. The technology is too new to draw firm conclusions.
