Protein Powder: Usually there are direction on the packages for the amount of fluid. I have seen 8-10oz. Many will use for Post work out recovery, but it depends on your personal goals.

Before and After: If you are trying to support and / or build your muscle it is good to have some protein before your weight lifting work out and after. This helps to supply amino acids to rebuild muscle that is damaged by the weight training workout for hours after you are done.
