Paronychia: If infection has set in, self-treatment of paronychia won't work. Medical care and antibiotics are needed. But to prevent recurrences, you can stop getting manicures and stop using instruments on your nails (esp. cutting cuticles, using orange sticks) and stop applying nail polish that might irritate or reinfect healing tissue. Keep hands and nails clean and dry, and don't pick at cuticles.

Stop.: You are beyond the point of treating it at home. If the recurrence rate is twice a month, then you are doing more harm than help by your self treatment. In time a serious infection could start. This is an easy fix in a podiatrists office.
