C.diff: Yes, Flagyl can be an effective treatment for diarrhea, if the cause is clostridium difficile, or C. Diff. It's caused by a bacterial overgrowth of that bacterium in the colon, usually after taking antibiotics or catching from someone having the disease, usually in the hospital. Seek medical attention if you have diarrhea for more than a few days.

Sometimes: It really depends on what is causing the diarrhea. Flagyl is used to treat diarrhea due to Clostridium Difficile. There are better choices (such as Zithromax) to treat bacterial diarrhea when you don't know what is causing it. Antibiotics only help if the diarrhea is caused by bacteria. It won't help for food poisoning or non-bacterial types of diarrhea.
