Slowly progressive: Macular pucker may progress very slowly if at all or may progress more rapidly. Individual progression is unpredictable. Macular pucker is a very common condition as we age especially seen after posterior vitreous detachment when there may be a stimulus to fibroblast proliferation on the surface of the retina. The vast majority of patients never require surgical intervention.

Not predictable: Puckers are fairly common. Unless they affect vision in a way that either bothers the patient, or is moderate to severe, they are usually observed. I typically follow macular puckers every 6-12 months, and often they do end up progressing over time. Best to visit with a trustworthy retina specialist for an opinion.
