Laxity or defect: A joint feeling like it needs to pop is a nonspecific symptom but after several sprains & continued pain, your ligaments may remain lax (stretched out) and allow for instability of your ankle. Also, we sometimes find cartilage defects after ankle sprains. X-rays, brace and rehab would be first on my list.
