ALMOST as BAD: According to a.C.S. (am. Cancer society): secondhand smoke (shs) in us causes 46, 000 deaths/yr from heart disease in people who are non-smokers! and about 3, 400/yr nonsmoking adults die of lung cancer as a result of breathing shs. Worse asthma and asthma -related problems in up to 1 million asthmatic children and up to 300, 000 respiratory infections in <18 month olds. Stop smoking =helps others.

Smoking: Gives you many times more nicotine and tars than does second hand smoke, but in some professions - like workers in restaurants, bars that allow smoking, that the amount breathed in can approximate someone who is themselves smoking on the order of a half pack a day. Some people are very sensitive to the effects of cigarette smoke. They are both bad, and 2nd hand smoke can cause medical complication.
