No: Your baby's doctor is giving excellent advice. Colds are due to a viruses which do not respond to antibiotics.

Mgt: Most cold symptoms are caused by viruses which typically resolve on their own within 10 days. If he has a prolonged cough for more than 3 weeks, or 2 days of fever more than 101 F, he should be evaluated for a sinus or otitis infection. Keep the baby well hydrated and clear the nasal passages with a mild saline solution and gentle suction. I would suggest monitoring his temperature .
