Need upper GI: The persistence of pain can be of stomach or pancreatic origin. An upper endoscopy can define if there is a perforating ulcer into the retroperitoneum or calculi in distal common duct. A CAT scan of abdomen can get a better look at stomach or even pancreatic pathology which should be performed to define treatment protocol

May need: Upper and lower endoscopy to see if there is an ulcer in the upper GI or a diverticulum in a lower GI, as well as other causes of irritation/pain. To to your doctor about referral to a gastroenterologist.
