Consider evaluation: Your herniated disks is unlikely related to your bowel problem. If you strained to defecate, you may have caused to rectal trauma/tear which resulted in the blood. Other common cause is hemorrhoids which is common especially in those who strain a lot. If it continues, recommend getting a rectal exam and an anoscopy for further evaluation.

Red stool: If no other symptoms, there's no need to freak out, could be something local ex. hemorrhoids or effect of medications or diet. Best to consult your PCP for checkup.
