Needs X-rays : A few things may have happened with your father's shoulder that is causing him this type of pain. The first thing to do is get plain X-rays of the shoulder. If there isn't any fractures or shoulder separation or dislocation, an MRI should be done to look for a tear in the rotator cuff.
