Dental trauma: Sorry about your accident. In many cases no treatment is necessary. However, any time a tooth takes a blow such as this there is always the possibility that the teeth will need a root canal. Increased pain, tooth color change, sensitivity to temperature and fistula are the symptoms that could manifest at any time in the future, even months later. See your dentist for re-evaluation.

Re-evaluation: The blunt force trauma may have damaged the tooth that was not evident last week... tooth may have been fractured, nerve may have been damaged. A week later those problems may now be manifesting themselves. Have your dentist take another look.

Softball injury: Once the initial pain and/or swelling subsides, it could take several days or weeks for an injury to become symptomatic. It could be that the nerve in the tooth has died, or it could be a fracture of the tooth, bone surrounding the tooth, or a fracture of the jaw. Return to your dentist or see an oral surgeon for a re-evaluation.
