H&P, and likely xray: Lacey, your doctor will take a history of your pain/injury, perform a physical exam, and likely order an X-ray. They may prescribe medicine or other therapy if they feel it is necessary. Hope this helps!

Evaluation & exam: The doctor will talk to you to learn how you hurt it and your current symptoms, then examine your ankle (feel it, move it), then decide if it's appropriate to do an X-Ray (if concern about fracture) or MRI (to evaluate ligaments) & then either recommend treatment (including physical therapy) or refer you to a specialist for further evaluation. The more you can tell the doc the more s/he can help.
