Depends: It depends on the severity of injury and if there was blood accumulation in the tissue or just fluid. You can help your cause by putting ice pack on it right after the injury and using warm packs the following day and later. Swelling from a minor injury can go down in a few hours with an ice pack.

Depends...: You can help reduce swelling of a fresh new injury by applying ice packs for 10-20 minutes several times a day for the first few days. This can also help to reduce bruising. If there are any cuts on the outside or inside skin, watch for signs of infection which might delay healing.

About 3-5 days: Hello. If the damage is minor, use ice for 15-20 minutes a few times per day to reduce the swelling. It should be better in 3-5 days. If not, go to urgent care or contact your regular doctor's office.
