Muscular-neurologic: Its hard to guess , unless we take a good History and a good medical exam to differentiate the causes, then you may need some tests to be done, checking muscle tone, nerve conductions, electrolytes,may be MRI of neck. So best recommandation at this point is to see a Doctor.

Cramping caused by..: The most common reasons for muscle cramps is dehydration, electrolyte abnormalities, and fatigue and overuse of the muscle. Good hydration and stretching before and after workouts is recommended. Stretching before bedtime also helps. Tonic water has quinine in it, and taken before bedtime can minimize cramping.
