Likely Viral...: It sounds like a viral sore throat. These are common and often close family will have the same symptoms. Try gargling with warm salt water and taking a pain reliever such as Tylenol (acetaminophen) or Motrin for pain. If new symptoms develop such as fever or inability to swallow or your symptoms don't improve in 1-2 days see your doctor.
