I have pain in my neck, left side "outside of throat", an inch or so under jaw. jaw is also sore and clicks when opened. no swelling or redness.

TMD ?: 23y female w. unilateral jaw pain and clicking wonders about cause. Temporomandibular disorders, TMD, can evoke these symptoms. Masseter muscle spasm can be causal. See below:
