What happens if someone lives longer than 6 months on hospice do they just put them to sleep?

6 months or more: No they do not put people to sleep. People can stay on hospice for longer than 6 months if there is documented evidence that they are declining and still need and are benefitting from hospice. That said, if someone improves, and the hospice team believes the person no longer needs, they can be discharged from hospice.

Nooooo!!: Hospice is meant for those who seemingly at the end of life, although that end can still be many months away. The emphasis of hospice care is not trying to save the life, but to give comfort to the individual as their death approaches. If someone continues to live, they decide to continue hospice or take the person off hospice. We don't put people to sleep.
