Other diagnoses?: After pneumonia, the hospital usually checks oxygen levels, and these should be normal at discharge if nothing else is wrong. Sleeping long periods is common during recovering from significant illness, not by itself a cause for concern.

Fatigue: Fatigue is a prominent symptom of infection and could explain this sleepiness. However other underlying factors could be chronic diseases and/or medication. The patient's physician,who knows all the facts in the case is best qualified to answer this question.

Recovering body: After a three day hospitalization for a lung infection, it can take awhile to recuperate. Sleeping is part of the process. If you've ever been in the hospital, you know that it's not a great place to get any rest. Meanwhile, adequate fluids, small digestible meals will help recovery from the pneumonia.
