UA and kidney tests: In addition to the appearance of the kidneys, it is important to understand how well they are functioning. It is important to have a urinalysis to look for blood or protein in addition to getting kidney function tests, typically blood urea nitrogen (BUN) and creatinine. Your doctor may want to order more tests if there are other associated medical problems or refer you a kidney specialist.
