A member asked:

What do you suggest if my family (especially the males) has a history of heart problems. does this put me more at risk?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Yes: You're at risk. I suggest you develop or continue the healthiest lifestyle you can: no smoking, ideal body weight, daily exercise, Mediterranean Diet, good BP control. After you institute the above, get your cholesterol checked - if it's outrageous, consider prophylactic statin treatment. Start low dose aspirin 10 years younger than your youngest relative with heart disease. Get regular checkups.
