Not usually: If the intussusception cannot be relieved with intervention by radiology, for instance, with a gastrogaffin enema, surgical release of the obstruction will likely need to be done. Bowel can die and terrible illness if the bowel is not returned to a normal position. Often at the same time, a "lead point" can be identified - something like a polyp, etc. This can then be removed at same time.

Not usually : The intestine may move in and out a bit, but if truly intussuscepted and necrotic , surgery will be needed.
