Possible ganglion: There are some various things that can present that way. The area that you describe is a common place for ganglions to form. Another consideration, is the Extensor Digitorum Brevis muscle belly. This can become enlarged due to various stresses. It is located on the lateral or little toe side of the foot near the ankle. If you are having pain from this you may want to have this checked out.
