A member asked:

What is the difference between regulare and prescription nasal allergy sprays?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

A lot: Regular or over-the-counter sprays usually contain saline, decongestants (eg afrin (oxymetazoline) and generics with similar ingredients), and even capsaicin. These tend to not provide lasting effects. Prescription sprays are safer than decongestants, and more effective. These come as either steroids or antihistamine sprays.
