A member asked:

26/f. would 10mg amitriptyline stop diarrhea in zollinger-ellison? have chronic diarrhea x9 months. gastro says ibs & amitriptyline stopped diarrhea.

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Maybe he knows...: ...a thing or two about the gut! Amitriptyline is an old but commonly used medication for treatment of dysmotility associated with diarrhea-predominant Irritable Bowel Syndrome. On the other hand, the diarrhea associated with Zollinger-Ellison syndrome is more a maldigestion problem and amitriptyline will have little utility here.
