Watching your intake: To loose weight, the goal is to burn off more calories than you consume. Fad diets do not last, but the initial reduction is usually water. Eat more fruits/veggies, more protein and less carbs. Eat 6 small meals a day and start a walking program.

Diet > exercise: There is no "fast" way to loose weight. Most effective way is likely diet control. 1 lb of fat is equal to 3500 cal. Because we break down muscles and use that for energy, more practically, you will have to cut back more than 3500 cal. Start by cutting down carbs into half from your regular diet (i.e. 1 slice of bread instead of 2). Aim for 1 - 2 lbs loss per week. At least ingest 1200 cal/day.
