GO TO THE DOCTOR: There are many causes of back pain. But what I am concerned about is that you have loss of bladder function. This is very concerning in the setting of back pain for compression of the very bottom part of the spine called the cauda equina. It is potentially a serious condition and is the first thing that I would want to rule out.
