Depends: Most adult mono patients will shed virus in their saliva for 2-3 weeks and some longer. The virus can live for some time on surfaces outside the body.The role of any airborne material is unknown but likely minimal. If the contact with the person is social but not intimate, and routine hand washing is practiced, I see no reason to isolate this person.
