A member asked:

Will salt water and peridex (chlorhexidine gluconate) heal a gum infection?

Dr. Treva Lee answered

Not necessarily: It depends on if your body is able to heal itself with the help of salt water & periodex besides good home care and professional gum cleanings. Those solutions by themselves cannot always work.

No: Most gum infections are sub-gingival (underneath the gums) and salt water/peridex cannot reach the bugs sub-gingivally.

Don't count on it: No. Need a professional cleaning, advice, proper home care. May even require a gum specialist if severe.
