Persistent asthma: Looks like your daughter has persistent asthma for which long acting inhaled steroids may need to be initiated to control her symptoms. your child's doctor can help you define a long term goals with an Asthma Action Plan. You can then follow it and review it with your doctor every 4-6 months for changes that may be needed depending on the response.

M.D.: Inflammation in the lung may be prolonged even after a short course of steroids. An inhaled steroid may be added to albuterol used for quick relief. At this age, a spacer device is recommended to better deliver the medications to the lung. Your physician may review possible triggers in her environment which can lead to prolonged asthma symptoms.
