What causes a newbornbaby to get seize?

Many things!: A neonatal seizure can come from a variety of reasons- low blood sugar or calcium, infection, lack of oxygen to the brain in the perinatal period, or a neuroloical or metabolic problem. A dtailed history and workup are needed to determine the cause.

Multiple possibilits: Seizures can occur in newborns from multiple causes. Metabolic:low levels of glucose, calcium, magnesium, sodium, etc. Withdrawal: to maternal meds infection:meningitis, encephalitis or sepsis; genetic: aminoacid disorder ; lack of oxygen or blood flow to the brain prior to or during labor, delivery: stroke. A physician team will look into these is a systematic way & treat as indicated.
