Whenever i'm cycling and get to a 4k my quads start to seize up, what could be causing this?

Muscle cramps: Muscles cramp for various reasons. Stretch before riding, work on conditioning, and stay hydrated with a sports drink rich in carbohydrates and electrolytes. Once a muscle starts to cramp, its hard to get it to stop, but try stretching and massaging the muscle.

Lactic acid.: Lactid acid builds up in our muscles with prolonged or excessive exercise. Drink plenty of water and electrolyte replacement drinks. Stretch your quads before and after your ride. Ice your quads after exercise. This should help.
