>101: A fever is the body's reprncs to infection. In a 2 year old, up to 100.9 is not an emergency. Children's tyenol or advill can be given and recheck temp in 2-4 hours. A fever of 101 or over sould be investigated by a professional.

How to handle 102 fever in 2 year old

Tylenol (acetaminophen) +/- see DR.: A normal, healthy, happy toddler who gets a fever of 102 (but no other symptoms) most likely has caught a virus, or a bacterial ear or throat infection. A first step is to give tylenol (acetaminophen) or motrin, which will lower the fever for a few hours. Then, one decides when to see a doctor (today, tomorrow, or later) depending on how ill the toddler appears. Sick-looking children should a doctor very soon.

Possibilities: A number of possibilities exist. A hidden infection, connective tissue diseases such as lupus, or periodic fever conditions are a few. See your pediatrician. Begin keeping a fever diary while waiting to be seen to see if there is a pattern.

Fever in 2 year old: This could be many things but i would try supportive care (oral tylenol (acetaminophen) and ibuprofen, fluid). If no improvement, go see the pediatrician since ear infections are common at this age.

A 36-year-old female asked:
What is considered a fever? And what is a normal temperature for a 2yr old?

Dr. Michael Einanswered

98.6F: Normal temperature varies from 97.6 to 99.2 degrees f. During the day. It's lowest in the morning and highest in late afternoon to early evening. Any temperature above 99.4f would be considered a fever. A temperature over 100.2f would be considered a significant fever.
