Surgery: Some if not most surgeons prefer you to be at a "stable" weight, so that the recovery and Rehab post surgery will be bearable, and the surgery itself will have more a chance of being successful. Discuss with your surgeon ways to lose, as maybe you need medicine to help, that is, if you ARE truly dieting and exercising the best you can. Good luck to you.

Complex: Depending on the location of the hernia and the symptoms, may need to repair at your current weight. Obesity however significantly increases the technical difficulty of the operation and reduces the success rates. Also, you could get another opinion by a surgeon interested in henia repair - find one on the Americas Hernia Society website. Best thing however is to lose the weight. Hope this helps!
