It's been 11 months since my hysterectomy and my scar has popped open and i now need an extensive hernia repair. is the surgeon at fault?

No: Hernias happen because of over activity too soon or smoking or malnutrition. It isn't the surgeons fault.

Scar: Hernia formation is multifactorial and may be related to the condition of the abdominal wall prior to surgery as well as obesity etc . Post op hernia formation is a known complication of hysterectomy

Hernia: There are many factors that can lead to hernia formation. Most are internal factors of the patient and not controllable by the surgeon especially when it occurs remotely from surgery like your case.
