Blood calcium?: Hi. I understand your PTH is low. But what's your blood calcium? If your blood calcium is high and your PTH is low, we call that "suppressed"...HUGE difference between hypoparathyroidism and suppressed PTH! If your blood calcium is HIGH, that explains why you're sick. If so, get yourself to a good endocrinologist ASAP! If your calcium is LOW & your PTH is low, that's hypoparathyroidism. Good luck!

Hypoparathyroidism: Surgery is by far the leading cause over 75% of the time. The next causes are autoimmune attack on the parathyroids followed by a congenital (born with) absence of parathyroid glands (i.e. diGeorges syndrome).
