Needs an ear recheck: Otalgia (ear pain) is common with an ear infection. OTC pain relievers or anesthetic drops for the ear canal may help. After finishing amoxicillin, your child's ears should be re-examined to see if the infection has cleared or if there is persistent fluid. Different antibiotics may be needed and some children need to an ENT referral if they have a persistent middle ear effusion with hearing loss.
