Depends: If the extraction was difficult and bone was compromised, you may be in the process of rejecting a sequestrum. You may wish to revisit the surgeon who removed the tooth for an evaluation

Always a possibility: A root tip fragment, splinters, shards, spurs, chips left behind after extraction. See your dentist for x-ray and fragment removal.
