Belly fluid: Ascites is a term used to describe fluid collecting in the abdomen. it can happen for many different reasons. How "deadly" or bad ascites can be really depends on the reason behind it and whether the fluid in the belly ever gets infected. A common reason fluid builds up is liver disease. This happens because the liver is responsible for making things that keep fluid from leaking. Good luck!
