Pain is not normal: Tooth extraction is a surgical procedure and is not completely risk-free. Pain, swelling, bad breath and infection following surgery is usually at its worst 24 – 48 hours after surgery. After that it should subside more and more every day and after 7 days stop. See your dentist or an oral surgeon for post-op appointment and treatment. Take care.

Extractions: You had surgery accomplished. Will take time to heal. After 48-72 hours pain should be easing off. Did your treating Dentist or Oral Surgeon provide you with post-operative instructions, prescribe antibiotics, prescribe pain killers? Have you called the practitioner for a post-surgical reevaluation. The practitioner that did the surgery is best positioned to care for you.

Not Uncommon: Pain following an extraction is not uncommon, and often the pain can be referred to the opposite arch on the same side. Difficulty of the extraction or prior presence of infection or pain is not known. If the discomfort is not helped by NSAIDs and/or has lasted for more than a few days, consult with your dentist or surgeon.
