Still contagious: due to viral shedding (even without an outbreak).

Herpes: Even if no herpes lesions are present you are still shedding the herpes virus which means you are still contagious. The ony way to prevent asymptomatic shedding of the herpes virus is to take suppressive therapy of antiviral medication.
