Many causes: Injection is redness of the conjunctiva, the normally clear covering over the white sclera. The clear cornea would not be described as injected. Common causes include allergy, dryness, foreign body, wind burn, and eye rubbing. There are less common causes that the specialist will look for. While waiting to see the specialist, one might try artificial tears and no eye rubbing.
