Many reasons and man: Common reason is cervicogenic head ache. This is where the problem starts in the upper joints in the neck. The origin may be degenerative (arthritic) or post traumatic ( such as whiplash) or even spinal canal pathology. These respond to interventional pain procedures such as nerve blocks involving the little joints (facet joints) and longer lasting pain relief from coagulating ( cookong) these.
