Hard to tell: It sounds like you had a viral infection that injured the olfactory nerve fibers that are present at the top of the inside of the nose. If your sense of taste has returned, it is likely that the odd smell you have will also resolve. If it does not have an ENT doctor visualize the superior portion of the inside of your nose with an endoscope just to be sure that area is normal.
