Generally you can't: Unless you have a fever or swollen limb which may suggest a clot more than sciatica otherwise not very specific. I would suggest ruling out the clot first and then workup the sciatica issue afterwards.

See your doctor: Most doctors can evaluate you and diagnose whether or not you have a blood clot .If there is any chance of a blood clot they can order a venous ultrasound to test for it.

Ultrasound: Venous ultrasound is the gold standard to determine if there is a clot in the veins between the groin and lower calf. Another good screening test is d-dimer but is less specific than an ultrasound. Although possible , it would be unusual for a clot to occur in both legs at the same time. You should see a vein specialist for a venous evaluation.
